Does anyone know what this does exactly?

Does this use a lot of bandwith?

Does this file just check in to the WSUS Server and thats it?

I was thinking of putting into the login script, but I have people logging in ready to work so I can't have that wuauclt.exe /detectnow install and download stuff when that line is ran. Because the people would be using the network.

I just want the pc to check in with the server and thats it.

Thanks.

Do the updates get downloaded at that time?

Thanks.

No, there is no way within the program to make it force updates to a pc. There is a script in this forum that gc_metal wrote that you can run on the local pc that will make it pull the updates, but that is about all you can do in the "Force Updates" issue.

when you run wuauclt.exe /detectnow, open %windir%\windowsupdate.log to see whats happening in the background. you can also check the event logs to see if updates are being installed or ready to be installed. hope this helps!

I beleive you can do this if you enable gpedit setting allow imeediate installation of patches. I have not tested this but I thought that is what the setting is for is to install imediately after patches are detected
