I have synchronized the WSUS server and see all of my updates listed however not all of my files will download.

When I look at the update page I see all of the updates listed but there are a several update the have a green arrow over the download status icon. When I click on the status tab for these update I see the following message:

"The files for this update have not yet been downloaded. The update can be approved but will not be available to computers until the download is complete."

I have tried to manually sync the server to force the files to download with no luck.

Thanks,

This is a bit different than the other post. (6105), I can see the updates listed, but the files for the update have not downloaded. I have tried the suggested remedies listed in the other post, (6105) with no success.

Thanks

I have the same problem as wanttolearn... Event Id 364 also appears in my WSUS server. It is a standalone server, meaning it is not connected to the internet or is not a downstream of another. It gets its updates manually from another wsus server as per the document from WSUS that suggest to use ntbackup to move mannually content to the other server and wsusutil to export/import metadata.

I have tried the osql command that brings to foreground bits downloads to no success...
I have exported the metadata again from another wsus server that works fine but no luck....

I have reinstalled wsus and keep getting the problem, it is as if some updates just wont make themselves available...

Any help appreciated

I am also having this same issue. The updates show up in WSUS as being approved but do not download.
I have checked network service and user permissions on the folders and files in WSUSContent folder.

Synchronize seems to work every time. I do get an error though in the Application log in event viewer and in SoftwareDistribution.log.

This is a Win2003 server downloading all updates from Windows updates site. WSUS Build 2.0.0.2472
Running through proxy, but most updates work properly. I have also followed link listed in the log file to the http address in a browser and I can download the file without any issues.

Here are the errors:

The event viewer application error varies on the .cab file to be downloaded, but the error remains the same:

Source: Windows Server Update
Catagory: Synchronization
EventID: 364
Type: Error

Description:

This is dmccleskey logged in as a memeber now. I got this to work!
I have to give the credit to Matthias Edegger who posted this answer on a TechArena forum http://forums.techar...ad.php?t=339062
It seems that this permission issue has to do with the way BITS2 runs on the server.

Run these following commands in a command line:

net stop wsusservice
"%programfiles%\Update Services\tools\osql\osql.exe" -S Server\WSUS -E -b -n
-Q "USE SUSDB update tbConfigurationC set BitsDownloadPriorityForeground=1"
net start wsusservice

The server\wsus should be replaced with your server and named sql instance (mine was WSUS which is the default)

Once this was finished I ran a manual synchronization and my updates started flowing in.

In my situation, I have all the updates saying "The files for this update have not been downloaded. The update can be approved but will not be available to computers until the download is complete." after i setup my new WSUS server which host SQL server 2005, together with Forefrront Management Console. Therefore all my clients were not able to update since that day. There isn't any error for WSUS in the event log. As my database is in SQL server 2005, the osql.exe is located in the %programfiles%\microsoft sql server\90\tools\binn, however when i execute the above command, the got the following error:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Tools\Binn>osql.exe -S sgintff01\WSUS -
E -b -n -Q "USE SUSDB update tbConfigurationC set BitsDownloadPriorityForeground
=1"
[SQL Native Client]SQL Network Interfaces: Error Locating Server/Instance

[SQL Native Client]An error has occurred while establishing a connection to
the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by
the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote
connections.

It is very frstrating dealing with this problem, is there any other suggestion?
