Download Failed 0x80244019 Download Failure

Hi Folks,

anyone seen this error, WXPSP2 downloading Security Updates. Just says Error: Download Failed Result Code 0x80244019. I have already deployed some other patches (still testing).
I can't seem to find anywhere that lists all the Result Codes so if someone knows where it is, that would be great too!

80244019 is an "HTTP 404 - FILE NOT FOUND" error. Does the log tell you what file/URL hit this error? Is this during server synchronization or client download? If it's server synchronization, check proxy settings first. If it's the client, make sure that access isn't restricted on the server or that URLScan isn't blocking exe/cab files.

The datastore backup issue is just a warning, and not fatal, so I wouldn't worry about it for now. I can't tell what's failing to download from the log snippet that you posted. Can you please zip and attach the entire log, or at least a full 24-hour cycle of the log? Also, zip and attach the %windir%\softwaredistribution\reportingevents.log, as it is a nifty summary of all AU activity.

Here is the answer:

Can you please have a look at the IIS settings regarding your WSUS virtual directories. They should be set to a maximum of “Scripts only” under execute permissions. I.e. please check your permissions and make sure they do NOT have “Scripts and executables”

I managed to cause this issue for myself. I believe it occurred because I changed the status of some approvals while updates were being downloaded when I resintalled WSUS SP1 server from scratch while the first sychronization was still running.

When I went into my WSUS content structure and looked for the files that were failing to download by the names and locations reported in my clients error logs, they were completely missing.

I made a change in my sychronization settings to download full installation packages (I should have set it in the first place for my environement). It resets the download status for all patches when you make that type of change (making a language change will cause the same reset). It appears to be downloading patches when it doesn't find them already in the file structure as well as downloading the full install packages.

It will be a while as I have patches for several languages, and a few gigs of downloads to complete. The other solution I was looking at was installing WSUS on my desktop (I'm running 2k3 server), approving just the updates I'm missing in production, verifying the file names are consistent, then copying the files to my production instance.

I got the same issue today. Try to follow what nessus suggest. Will see how it turn out.

I also had this error: "0x80244019", i solve it but it took my few hours, here is what i have did:
1. I upgrade my wsus to version 3 sp1.
2. In your security policy check that your server is configured to http://yourserver if so then go to your IIS and make sure the virtual directories under your defult webserver(not the wsus administration port 8530) have these directories configured correctly:
ClientWebService
Selfupdate
SimpleAuthWebServices
make sure in each of these directories the network services group got 'read + list' permissions.
under directory properties asp.net tab select version 2 or above.
under directory properties Directory Security unselect anonymous and select integrated windows authentication.

it works for me, hope it will work for you :)
